Katie and Will met in 2017 at the annual Kramer Good Friday Fish Fry. They were both finishing up their senior years of college; Will was at Marquette and Katie was at Loras. Their moms were friends and worked together - that’s how Will got the invite. He was not particularly excited to go, because he didn’t know anyone and he also had a black eye. Will went anyway because he knew his mom wanted him there. Katie greeted them as they both approached the house. Katie kinda knew Will from her mom constantly talking about him going to Marquette. She also left subtle hints how she thinks they should meet up; like leaving his family Christmas card out on the kitchen table and saying “This is Will who goes to Marquette and I work with his mom.”

They started talking and of course bonded over Marquette and Milwaukee. Will was currently at Marquette and Katie was starting grad school at Marquette in the fall. Will messaged Katie on Facebook the next day and from that point on they haven’t stopped talking! The black eye didn’t scare Katie - I guess you could say they hit it off at the fish fry.

At the end of the school year, they both came home to Appleton and decided to meet up after texting/talking on the phone for a few months. They hung out a couple times and then Will went back to Milwaukee for the summer to work. Katie joined him in Milwaukee for grad school at Marquette in the fall. Will showed Katie all around Milwaukee, just as he promised he would. A few years later and now they’re both Milwaukee residents and loving Milwaukee living more than ever.

Will crafted the engagement perfectly! Riley, Will’s brother, was in Milwaukee visiting and his parents came up to spend a day exploring Milwaukee. Katie was told to show Riley “all of our favorite things about Milwaukee.” It started with a brewery tour at Lakefront Brewery and then we decided to go to Brady Street. Will casually suggested going to HiHat. On the walk over Will’s parents asked Katie “so tell me about HiHat?, Why do you like it so much?, etc.” Katie being oblivious to everything...didn’t think much of it. She went onto explain how HiHat was the bar that her and Will officially started dating at a few years prior. While hanging out with friends they decided to go in the photo booth (because why not?) They took their picture, it may not have turned out the best, but when they came out of the photo booth Will asked Katie to officially be his girlfriend.
When they arrived at HiHat, they all had a drink and then Will suggested to Katie to go in the photo booth (Katie still thinking nothing of course). While in the photo booth Will got down on one knee and asked Katie to be his wife. Katie, crying tears of joy about the wonderful future that was kneeling before her, and before she got to answer Will asked “are you saying yes??” Katie could barely contain her excitement as she leaned in to kiss her future husband! When they stepped out of the photo booth Katie was once again surprised as Will arranged for Katie's family to also be there! We shared lots of hugs, tears of joy, and a champagne toast to celebrate this special moment. They couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.
