To alleviate and serve our community better, I have decided on taking the following initial steps:

1. There will be NO water cutoffs for the months of March and April. In addition, I have directed the water department to extend the due dates without penalties until the 23rd of the month.

2. Out of abundance of caution, all activities and events at The Alvin D. Baggett Community Center have been canceled and/or postponed until further notice.

3. Harris County Judge, Lina Hidalgo, announced all restaurants in Harris County will suspend dine-in and will only provide take-out, delivery or drive-through for the next 15 days to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

My fellow citizens, let’s continue to work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Let’s remain vigilant and continue to practice healthy hygiene habits such as washing our hands, covering coughs and sneezes, avoiding touching our nose, eyes, and mouth. STAY SAFE WHILE TRAVELING TO GALENA COUNTRY

Being a safe, responsible, and respectful traveler has never been more important. It’s in your best interest, as well as those of our residents, workforce, and fellow visitors. Please do your homework upfront and be prepared to adhere to the following guidelines:

Face Coverings:

  • Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health announced that face masks are required in the State of Illinois as of May 1, 2020, for those aged two years and older. A face mask or similar article that completely covers your nose and mouth is required in all indoor and outdoor public areas, including when you go out walking, shopping, visiting attractions and dining.
  • As of Jan. 19, 2021 revised mitigations in our region were put into effect until further notice. Full guidelines may be found on the State of Illinois Coronavirus Response Site. Masks are required if you are inside of, or in line to enter any indoor/outdoor public space, picking up food from your car window, and while waiting for, and on all public transportation and rideshares.
  • Masks are also required when in outdoor public spaces. If you’re on less populated trails or engaged in outdoor recreation such as running, biking, skiing and walking, pull up your mask when you encounter other people in close proximity. You don’t need to wear a mask in the water.

*Those who are exempt from wearing a face mask include those with a medical condition, mental health condition, or disability that prevents wearing a face covering and those who are hearing impaired or communicating with a person who is hearing impaired, where the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication, do not need to use a face mask. Keep Your Distance: Practicing social distancing is required. Please remain six feet away from those not in your traveling party at all times.

Call Ahead: before visiting, we recommend confirming all reservations—especially if you made them in advance of the pandemic. This applies to hotels, restaurants, and attractions, as businesses are always adapting to changes made by authorities.

WHAT IS OPEN IN GALENA COUNTRY?

*Please be sure to check the status of all intended destinations and attractions via Facebook, their website or calling prior to visiting.

  • Lodging: Properties are open. Please contact properties individually to learn more or check out our online booking platform.
  • Retail: Shops are open! Most are open from around 10am-6pm, 7 days a week.
    • Customers are required to wear face coverings over their nose and mouth
    • Customers should not bring reusable shopping bags into stores
    • Stores are allowed to operate at no more than 25% capacity

  • Wineries, breweries and distilleries are open for indoor tastings,outdoor seating, retail sales, carry-out and curbside pickup. Please prepare to wear required face coverings.
  • Dining and Bars:Indoor dining, outdoor dining, carry-out, delivery, drive-thru and curbside pick-up is available. For a full list of options, click here. Dining closes at 11 p.m., re-opening no earlier than 6 a.m. the following day.
    • Indoor service is limited to 25% capacity
    • 4-person party limit per table
    • Reservations required
    • Customers should maintain a social distance of 6-ft with use of face coverings
    • Customers are required to wear face coverings over their nose and mouth while on the restaurant premises, when approached and served by staff for outdoor dining or pick-up, including but not limited to when employees take patrons orders, deliver food and beverages, and service tables.
  • Outdoors: Activities are permitted in groups of 25 or fewer with social distancing. This includes, hiking, biking, boating and fishing. If you’re on less populated trails or engaged in outdoor recreation such as running, biking, and walking, pull up your mask when you encounter other people in close proximity. You don’t need to wear a mask in the water.
  • Skiing & Snowboarding: Please follow the COVID response requirements that Chestnut Mountain Resort has put in place for the ski season. The response includes the nationwide Ski Well. Be Well best practices established by the National Ski Area Association and ski industry leaders throughout the nation.
  • Tours: Up to 25 people or 25% of room capactiy, whichever is reached first, both indoors and outdoors. No party buses allowed.
  • Attractions: Please call ahead and prepare to wear required face coverings. Indoor museums, performing arts centers etc are closed.
